Reconstruction for Head and Neck Cancers

We provide reconstruction services for complex defects in the head and neck region stressing on functional rehabilitation as well as cosmesis. This is important as any surgery in the head and neck regions severely impacts the swallowing or speech or the looks of the patient.

Reconstruction may involve use of tissue from adjoining area called as local flaps. Other flaps may include regional flaps. Flaps where complete blood supply is disconnected and then reconnected at the new site are called free flaps.

For majority of head and neck cancers, best reconstruction is generally done at the time of resection. Sometimes, a secondary reconstruction may also be feasible.
